Phoenix 10U Baseball

Burlington Recreation & Parks Department

2026 Season

About Our Team

Our goal is to build a positive team environment where every player learns the game and has a lot of fun along the way. We develop skills and confidence through drills and repetition. Every player comes into the season at a different level of experience, and that is perfectly fine.

Parents and guardians who want to help out at practice are always welcome!

Team Philosophy

  • Baseball is hard, and that’s the point. The best hitters in the world fail two out of every three at-bats. A .300 average is excellent. We are going to strike out, boot grounders, and throw to the wrong base. That’s the game. What matters is how we respond, keep our heads up, and get ready for the next play.
  • Effort over outcome. We can’t always control the result, but we can always control our effort. We sprint to first on every ground ball. We’re ready in the field on every pitch. We come to practice ready to work. That part is always on us.
  • Pick each other up. When a teammate makes an error or strikes out, we are in their corner. This team succeeds and struggles together. Nobody hangs their head alone.
  • Be coachable. Try it the new way, even if it feels awkward. Ask questions. Be open. The players who improve the most are the ones who are willing to be taught.
  • Respect everyone in the building. Ourselves, our teammates, our coaches, the umpires, and our opponents. Win or lose, we shake hands and mean it.
  • Have fun. This is baseball. If you’re not having fun, something is wrong and we want to know about it.

Game Rules & Info

  • Games are 6 innings or 75 minutes, whichever comes first. No new inning starts after 75 minutes.
  • Every player in attendance bats every game. The batting order runs continuously.
  • Every player must play a minimum of 2 innings in the field per game.
  • Run caps by inning: 5 runs (1st), 10 (2nd), 15 (3rd), and so on. Once the cap is reached, the half-inning ends immediately.
  • 10 players per team on the field (4 outfielders). A team can start with as few as 6.
  • There are no walks in 10U. When a batter reaches 3 balls, a coach comes in to finish the at-bat with the remaining pitches. Every coach pitch is a strike.
  • If the batter is hit by a coach pitch, they do not get first base (it counts as a strike).
  • If the batter is hit by a player pitch, it is a dead ball and the batter gets first base.
  • Pitchers may throw up to 4 innings per game (7 innings max across 2 games in the same week).
  • Bunting is legal on any pitch.
  • Foul balls on the last pitch keep the at-bat alive.
  • No base stealing. Runners may take a secondary lead after the ball crosses home plate.
  • On a passed ball or wild pitch, runners may attempt to advance.
  • No advancing on a dropped third strike.
  • Infield fly rule is not in effect.
  • Runners must avoid contact with fielders. Body blocks and rolling blocks are prohibited.
  • Throwing a bat carelessly results in a team warning. After the warning, any player who throws a bat is recorded as an automatic out.
  • Malicious contact of any kind results in immediate removal from the league for the remainder of the season.
  • Head-first slides are allowed but must be done legally.
  • BRPD will call off a game by 4:00 PM the day of the game.
  • If no cancellation is announced by 4:00 PM, your player must report to the field — umpires will make a game-time decision.
  • Sign up for "Notify Me" through BRPD to receive automatic alerts for postponed or rescheduled games.
